I started J Stokes Legal because I wanted to assist people resolve family law disputes quickly and cost efficiently.
I believe in access to justice
The legal system is complicated, and hard to navigate without assistance. Unless you have access to an experienced guide, you will likely find it difficult. If someone can’t afford to engage a lawyer they should not be left to figure it out alone.
I believe knowledge is power
When you are empowered to do something for yourself, you not only get that job done, but you gain confidence and skills you can apply to other challenges.
I believe in client service
Law has always been lawyer focused – in Court, the lawyers and judges are always the centre of attention, not the people the case is about. You are expected to traipse to a lawyers office to get the benefit of their wisdom. I want to turn that on its head and bring legal services to you, not the other way round.
What
J Stokes Legal is all about:

- at a price you can afford;
- without compromising on quality of service.
We provide information to teach you all about the ins and outs of Family Court procedures.
We also provide legal advice and legal services on what’s called a “limited scope” basis. What this means is that we can provide you with a specific service like advice about how to prepare your case, or document review and correction, or appearance at one specific hearing, while you retain control and responsibility over the rest of the case.
And all our services are “value-based” pricing, which means we will tell you the price of the work before your sign up for us to do it, and once that price is agreed, it won’t change.
We also offer Family Dispute Resolution Services which involves parties attending a pre-mediation intake assessment and if suitable a joint mediation session to see if the matter can be resolved out of court. If appropriate s 60i certificate can be provided to parties. FDR services are offered face to face, by telephone and online conferencing.
Who
I am Jessica Stokes, the Principal of J Stokes Legal. I’m a family lawyer and Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner accredited by the Attorney-General’s Department. I am focused on helping families resolve disputes and move on with their lives.
I have worked as Dispute and Resolution Lawyer since 2011 and I’ve worked exclusively in Family Law since 2015.
I started my own family law firm to help people like you get through the Family Dispute Resolution process, survive it, and maybe even thrive!
